Tata Power hopes to make its Tamil Nadu solar module and cell plant operational by the end of 2023, according to Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD.
Tata Power and the Tamil Nadu government made a deal in July 2022 to jointly invest Rs. 3,000 crore in a new plant to produce solar cells and modules in Tirunelveli.
Construction work is in full swing. Already ordered the equipment needed to put it up. Sinha told PTI that the goal is to have the plant up and running by December-end of next year.
In reply to a question about the timeline for the project, he said, according to the Memorandum of Understanding with Tamil Nadu, Tata Power must set up a 4GW greenfield solar cell manufacturing plant and a 4GW solar module production plant in the south state.
We expect the module plant will be ready in August-September, and we will begin rolling out modules September onwards. He said that we are in a very advanced stage in implementing cell lines, which will also be available by the end this year.
On the 225 MW hybrid project in Karnataka, he said the company awaits regulatory approval and clearances from the regulatory commission for purchase of power, reports PTI.
Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. (TPREL), a Tata Power subsidiary, received LoA from Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd. (TPDDL) in December 2022 to establish the Karnataka wind and solar hybrid power plant.
