ACEN RES And Globe Synergize To Power Facilities With Renewable Energy

ACEN RES, the retail electricity arm of ACEN, recently partnered with a leading digital solutions platform, Globe, to shift more of the latter’s high-energy utilization facilities in Luzon and Visayas to 100% renewable energy.

Under the new agreement, ACEN RES will leverage on ACEN’s expansive renewables portfolio to sustainably power ten of Globe’s facilities located in Cavite, Quezon City, Manila, Marikina, Laguna, Batangas, and Cebu, through renewable energy sourced from the company’s operating solar and geothermal plants.

The synergy between the two Ayala companies significantly contributes to the conglomerate’s commitment to achieve Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and to align with the global movement for climate action. ACEN has since pursued a bold aspiration of achieving 20 GW of renewables capacity by 2030, while Globe is recognized by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) for its commitment to set science-based targets aligned with the Paris Agreement’s ambition to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial levels.

Miguel de Jesus, ACEN’s chief operating officer for Philippine operations, said, “This most recent collaboration with Globe is what we have envisioned for ACEN RES from the beginning: as consumers increasingly seek ways to contribute to the energy transition, we readily provide energy solutions that meaningfully integrate sustainability, towards their path to carbon neutrality. When we forge these partnerships at a larger scale, we are given more opportunities to help decarbonize the society we live in.”

Rizza Eala, Globe CFO, treasurer, and chief risk officer, said, “This shift to renewable energy is part of Globe’s overall climate action roadmap and in support of both the country and the Ayala Group’s goal to reduce carbon emissions. We are continuously shifting our high energy utilization facilities to renewable energy sources and are looking forward to enrolling more eligible facilities as we proactively address climate-related risks.”

The consumer-focused and demand-driven Green Energy Option Program (GEOP) of the Department of Energy, which allows consumers with a monthly average peak demand of 100 KW and above the option to directly engage with Renewable Energy Suppliers (RES), was instrumental for ACEN to support businesses such as Globe to accelerate their “green switch”.

ACEN RES is ACEN’s licensed retail electricity and renewable energy supply arm, which powers hundreds of businesses, industries, and institutions in the Philippines through the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) and Green Energy Option Program (GEOP).
