The sole procurer of Oman’s power and water capacity, Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) gets the green signal from the Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR) for releasing co-located solar power projects to foreign investors.
The two power plants ‘Manah 1’ and ‘Manah 2’, located in Al Dakhiliya Governorate are expected to produce a combined capacity of 1,000 MW.
The two large-scale solar ventures have a combined capacity of 500 MW. They will help to increase electricity production using multiple resources and further implement the national strategy for zero net by 2050. These two projects will produce 6.6% of the total power production of Oman’s Sultanate by 2025. According to Oman Vision 2040 the two solar schemes are expected to contribute about 30% to the gross power production by 2030.
The two projects, which are worth more than RO300 million, have been allocated an area of 15 million m2. They are expected to stimulate the local market and attract foreign investment.
Construction will begin in the third quarter of this year. The two schemes will be commercially available by the middle of 2025.
