A 6.2-megawatt peak solar power plant was inaugurated by Yellow Door Energy at The Bahrain Mall. The solar power purchase agreement was signed by Majid Al Futtaim with Yellow Door Energy. The roof of The Bahrain Mall has seen more than 11,000 solar panels installed. It covers an area of over 40,000 square metres. The rooftop solar plant, with a peak power of 6.2 megawatts, produces 10 million kilowatt-hours (equivalent to 7,100 metric tons) of clean energy within the first year.

Laurent Hausknecht is the Regional Director for Gulf at Majid Al Futtaim Retail. He said that it was an immense pleasure to participate in this historic launch with Yellow Door Energy. The installation of solar panels on The Bahrain Mall’s roof brings us closer to our Net Positive Strategy. This will allow us to continue the company’s vision of creating “great moments for everybody, every day”, but it will also enable us to transform the environmental savings into unforgettable experiences for all visitors to The Bahrain Mall every single year.

Rory McCarthy is the Chief Operating Officer at Yellow Door Energy. stated that Yellow Door Energy was proud to have Majid Al Futtaim Retail as our first project in Bahrain. This announcement is extra special because we have also agreed to provide solar power to 18 additional shopping centers within Majid al Futtaim in Oman, Bahrain, and the UAE. We are looking forward to providing affordable, reliable, and clean energy to more prominent businesses in Bahrain to help achieve the Kingdom’s Net Zero goal by 2060.


This is the largest operating rooftop solar plant in Bahrain.

Yellow Door Energy announced recently that it had successfully completed a $400 million capital raise in order to continue developing energy projects in Africa, the Middle East, and more. Majid Al Futtaim and Yellow Door Energy partnered in December 2021 to build a 17-megawatt solar park that will provide clean electricity to 35 Carrefour shops in the Hashemite Kingdom, Jordan. Leading businesses can reduce energy costs by working with Yellow Door Energy.
