Jerusalem District Electricity Company And Jericho Municipality Partner For Solar Power Station In Jericho

In a landmark agreement signed at the headquarters of Jericho Municipality, the Jerusalem District Electricity Company and the municipality have paved the way for a transformative project – the construction of a solar power station that will illuminate the city’s streets. The undertaking will be carried out by the “3K Solar” company, with the goal of harnessing solar energy as a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative for generating electricity and covering street lighting expenses in Jericho.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Jerusalem Electricity Company, Eng. Hisham Al-Omari, expressed their success in procuring electric current from these solar stations and diversifying energy sources. Apart from supplying additional energy to the company, the solar power station is expected to significantly reduce electricity costs, ultimately bolstering the Palestinian economy.

Mayor Abdul Karim Sidr emphasized the significance of this collaborative endeavor in Jericho’s unwavering commitment to embracing clean energy sources and creating diverse revenue streams for the municipality. Particularly noteworthy is the municipality’s praiseworthy approach of not burdening its residents with street lighting expenses, making the solar initiative a pivotal step towards a sustainable future.

Ayman Kaloti, the General Manager of 3K Solar, highlighted the immense benefits of solar energy initiatives, not only in alleviating the financial and technical burdens on the Jerusalem Electricity Company but also in reducing the region’s reliance on imported electricity. This, in turn, fosters the process of disengagement from occupation and promotes a greener and more self-sufficient energy landscape.

This collaboration marks the second solar station agreement between the municipality and Jerusalem Electricity, with an investment of approximately one million dollars and a capacity of 1 megawatt. Such efforts represent a commendable stride towards embracing alternative energy solutions on a national scale, setting an inspiring example for the region’s clean energy transition.
