Eastgate Shopping Centre is undergoing a transformation with the addition of 5.74MW of solar power.
The rooftop solar panels, covering 30,000 square meters, pose construction challenges due to the rooftop parking area’s low load-bearing capacity.
Special measures, such as using small dumpers and designing unique scaffolding, are employed to overcome these challenges. Careful consideration is given to the weight implications of the solar panels, requiring strategic drilling and dowelling onto existing columns to transfer weight to the foundations.
The project is conducted in stages to minimize disruption, with premanufactured steel components accelerating the construction process.
