Zuellig Pharma, a prominent healthcare solutions company in Asia, has entered into a strategic partnership with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES) to provide 100% renewable energy for two major distribution facilities in the Philippines โ€“ the Santa Rosa Distribution Center and Canlubang Distribution Center.

The shift to 100% renewable energy is expected to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 10,600 tons annually, equivalent to the CO2 absorbed by approximately 92,739 trees over their lifetime. This move aligns with Zuellig Pharma’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

Renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, and hydropower play a crucial role in addressing climate change by generating electricity without contributing to Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. The Santa Rosa facility has already been certified as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) facility for its use of renewable energy.

The partnership falls under the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) program, allowing high power-consuming end-users like Zuellig Pharma to choose their electricity suppliers. ACEN RES facilitates a seamless transition to renewables for businesses, supporting their sustainability goals without additional equipment costs or power interruptions.

Miguel de Jesus, COO of ACEN’s Philippine operations, expressed excitement about the collaboration, emphasizing ACEN’s commitment to supporting Zuellig Pharma’s operations with clean, renewable energy.

Jannette Jakosalem, Market Managing Director at Zuellig Pharma Philippines, highlighted the importance of the switch to renewable energy as a significant step in reducing the company’s impact on the environment and carbon footprint across operations and supply chains.

Zuellig Pharma’s dedication to sustainability is further underscored by its platinum medal recognition from EcoVadis, a trusted provider of business sustainability ratings, for the third consecutive year.

This partnership extends ACEN RES’s client sectors to include educational institutions, industrial plants, FMCG businesses, and office buildings. It aligns with ACEN’s mission to foster a sustainable, low-carbon future for the Philippines and the broader Southeast Asian region.

ACEN RES, the retail electricity unit of ACEN, is part of the Ayala Group, with significant renewable energy assets in the Asia Pacific region. ACEN’s establishment of a Net Zero roadmap in March 2023 makes it the first energy company in Southeast Asia with clear emission reduction targets by 2050, reaffirming its leadership in the renewable energy space.
