During the COP28 summit on December 4th, LONGi, in collaboration with Heriot-Watt University, made a significant announcement. Head of LONGi MENA Region, Baggio Teng, and Professor Tadhg O’Donovan, Chief Scientistat Heriot-Watt University, jointly unveiled the “Joint Arab Youth Initiative,” emphasizing their dedication to sustainable education.
As a testament to this commitment, LONGi was invited to serve as the knowledge partner for the Climate Hub at the university on December 4th. This occasion also marked the inauguration of the “SOLAR RESEARCH LAB.” Jia Chao, President of LONGi MEA&CA Region, delivered the welcome speech during the session, expressing LONGi’s willingness to empower the youth generation with green energy. The aim is to provide an ideal platform for collaborative discussions on environmental leadership and sustainable practices, thereby contributing to sustainable education in the MEA region.
Notably, preceding COP28, LONGi had established the Hi-MO X6 test project on the rooftop of Heriot-Watt University. This project generated electric generation data utilized for a solar research course, benefiting students.
Professor Richard A Williams, the Principal and Vice-Chancellor of Heriot-Watt University, expressed his enthusiasm for the school-enterprise cooperation with LONGi in his opening speech. He highlighted the significance of collaborating with the world’s leading solar technology company. Starting from COP28 in Dubai, the university looks forward to embarking on youth collaboration in various aspects such as technology, scientific research, and talent introduction.
In their collaborative efforts, LONGi and Heriot-Watt University are initiating various projects. This includes supporting STEAM education with a specific focus on solar technology and providing students with valuable industry experience. LONGi has reiterated its commitment to engaging world-renowned partners and experts in advanced research and youth sustainable education. The overarching goal is to integrate renewable innovation with youth education closely and employment, fostering an understanding of the role and significance of renewable energy among the younger generation.
As part of its dedication to education and the continuous growth of the solar industry, LONGi established the LONGi Academy earlier in the year, specifically tailored for the Middle East. This academy will focus on training programs, solar education, scholarships, CSR projects, and partnerships with local educational institutions and organizations, all aimed at enhancing awareness and skills related to renewable energy among the youth.
On December 3rd, COP28 hosted a Round-table Dialogue at the Solar Pavilion in the Blue Zone, concentrating on nurturing environmental leaders among the youth. Baggio Teng was invited to this panel along with leaders from the youth sector, delving into the pivotal role of universities in fostering a sustainable future. Discussions extended to practical applications of green energy in higher education and strategies to empower the youth generation for active participation in the ongoing energy transition.
