NeXtWind Capital Ltd, in a strategic move advised by Watson Farley & Williams (WFW), has successfully acquired a significant onshore wind portfolio from Qualitas Energy Deutschland GmbH. This acquisition includes ten wind farms boasting over 60 turbines, collectively generating more than 112 MW of power. Currently undergoing repowering efforts, these wind farms are anticipated to escalate their total capacity to over 300 MW. This bold transaction marks a pivotal moment for NeXtWind, doubling their renewable energy portfolio at once.
Notably, this acquisition stands as NeXtWindโs maiden major deal with its new partners, Sandbrook Capital, and prominent Canadian institutional investors, Public Sector Pension Investment Board (PSP Investments) and IMCO. Established in 2020, NeXtWind is swiftly emerging as a key player in the wind energy sector, methodically expanding and repowering its portfolio, which encompasses 21 wind farms and over 150 turbines. With this latest acquisition, their collective portfolio is set to reach a staggering capacity potential of over 750 MW. This monumental increase positions the company to power approximately 400,000 households with clean energy, simultaneously averting more than a million tons of CO2 emissions annually.
The advisory team from WFW, led by Hamburg Corporate Partner Dr. Wolfram Bรถge, orchestrated the guidance for NeXtWind throughout this intricate transaction. The multidisciplinary team showcased expertise across various legal domains, including Corporate/M&A, regulatory matters, real estate law, finance, merger control/FDI, and tax law.
Dr. Bรถge expressed his satisfaction with the collaboration, citing the complexity of the deal as a testament to WFW’s prowess in navigating intricate international transactions involving diverse stakeholders and legal facets.
