Four Seasons YMCA Partners with Secure Solar Futures for 25-Year Solar Power Agreement

Secure Solar Futures, specializing in on-site clean energy provision for educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and enterprises, has finalized a 25-year Solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Tazewell’s Four Seasons YMCA to implement a 483-kilowatt solar energy system. This collaboration grants the YMCA access to on-site solar power without any initial capital expenditure, ensuring reduced electricity costs for the next three decades or more.

Situated in Tazewell, Virginia, the Four Seasons YMCA is a community hub dedicated to fostering youth development, promoting healthy lifestyles, and nurturing social responsibility. Their wide-ranging community initiatives encompass sports camps for children, diverse fitness programs for all age groups, medical screenings, luncheons, and the annual Tazewell County Fair.

“Embracing solar power aligns with our core mission,” stated YMCA CEO Shawn Durham. “It not only saves us operational costs that we can redirect into community programs but also reflects our commitment to environmental responsibility.”

The solar array, comprised of 912 Jinko Solar panels, will be installed on nearby land by Secure Solar Futures, who will assume ownership, operation, and maintenance responsibilities. The generated clean energy will be sold to the YMCA throughout the PPA’s term.

Over 25 years, the solar system anticipates producing 15,212,832 kilowatt hours of electricity, sufficient to power 48 average households. This solar energy will cover 98.5% of the YMCA’s electricity demand. By diminishing reliance on utility power, the YMCA foresees saving $64,855 in electricity costs and preventing approximately 10,781 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions during this duration.

Upon the PPA’s conclusion, the YMCA will take ownership of the solar power infrastructure at no additional expense, ensuring self-sufficient energy production for the remaining 35 to 40 years of the equipment’s productive lifespan.
