Sterlite Power Acquires Neemrana II Kotputli Transmission, Adding 7.7 GW to India’s Green Energy Grid

Sterlite Power, a prominent player in power transmission development and solutions in India and Brazil, has successfully acquired Neemrana II Kotputli Transmission Limited, a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), from PFC Consulting Limited (PFCCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Power Finance Corporation Limited (PFC). The acquisition, secured through the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process in November 2023, marks Sterlite Power’s twentieth power transmission project in India under this framework, contributing to a substantial portfolio of approximately INR 14,000 Crores.

Operated on a Build, Own, Operate, Transfer (BOOT) basis for a 35-year term, the Neemrana II Kotputli Transmission Limited project aligns with Sterlite Power’s commitment to fostering a sustainable future. Pratik Agarwal, Managing Director of Sterlite Power, emphasized the project’s significance in facilitating the flow of 7.7 GW of green power, playing a pivotal role in India’s transition towards sustainability while ensuring reliable power access and minimizing climate change impact.

The development involves two critical components: the construction of a 6000 MVA, 765/400kV substation at Neemrana and two 400 kV transmission lines spanning approximately 250 km. These transmission lines will connect Neemrana with the existing Kotputli substation and establish a LILO corridor connecting Neemrana II with Gurgaon & Sohna substations through the existing Gurgaon-Sohna line.

Sterlite Power’s strategic focus on green energy projects is evident in its recent successes, including the acquisition of the Fatehgarh III Beawar Transmission Ltd (Phase III, Part G project) in March 2023 and the subsequent win of the Beawar Transmission Ltd. (Phase III, Part-F) in August 2023. These projects, combined with Neemrana II Kotputli Transmission Limited, constitute the construction of a 950 km long transmission corridor across Rajasthan, facilitating the evacuation of renewable energy from various Renewable Energy Zones (REZs), including Fatehgarh, Bhadla, Ramgarh, and Bikaner.

With this latest project win, Sterlite Power’s green energy portfolio expands, bringing the total number of projects under its management to 9, reinforcing its commitment to advancing India’s renewable energy landscape.
