Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), under the leadership of HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO, has successfully commissioned 1,414 distribution substations of 11kV across Dubai in 2023. The construction of these substations, along with related tasks, amounted to an impressive 996,648 man-hours, adhering to the highest standards of health and safety.
Aligned with the vision and directives of the leadership, DEWA has been committed to building state-of-the-art infrastructure that aligns with the sustainable development requirements in Dubai. The focus is on meeting the needs of customers, developers, and businesses. This achievement is a result of meticulous and reliable planning processes, utilizing the latest foresight tools to contribute to the sustainable urban development of Dubai. It also supports the goals outlined in the Dubai 2040 Urban Masterplan.
“In addition to energy and water production projects, DEWA is working to enhance the transmission and distribution networks based on electricity demand forecast until 2030, considering the Emirate’s demographic and economic growth,” stated Al Tayer.
Rashid Bin Humaidan, Executive Vice President of Distribution Power at DEWA, highlighted that the total number of medium voltage substations (11 kV and 6.6 kV) reached an impressive 44,015 stations by the end of 2023. Emphasizing their commitment to quality, efficiency, and safety, he noted that all substations are implemented using the latest digital technologies, ensuring Dubai’s electrical infrastructure remains at the forefront of innovation. This milestone reinforces DEWA’s dedication to providing a robust and reliable power distribution network for the thriving city of Dubai.
