This initiative aims to achieve long-term cost savings on electricity. With funding of approximately PHP45 million from the National Electrification Administration (NEA), Cipriano Martinez, the acting general manager of Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative, Inc. (INEC), mentioned that the installation began in December and is expected to conclude soon.

As part of their responsibilities, INEC has also been assigned to install solar panels in public hospitals and schools. Once operational, the solar power project is projected to reach a capacity of 470 kilowatts, significantly reducing the province’s electricity costs by 40 per cent. The power generated by the solar panels will be sold to INEC, contributing to its supply.

In a press conference at the electric cooperative’s main branch in Dingras, Martinez emphasized that the installation aligns with their commitment to providing affordable and stable electricity to their member consumer-owners.

Simultaneously, 28 INEC linemen and three engineering staff, who have served as project workers for up to 10 years, have received permanent appointment orders.

Martinez acknowledged the delay in issuing these orders and expressed a commitment to rectify the situation, emphasizing the significance of their work for INEC. Along with the permanent status, the field workers will receive higher salaries and increased risk pay starting this year.
