In a significant development in the renewable energy sector, international leader Atlas Renewable Energy and construction materials company Votorantim Cimentos have inked a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the supply and purchase of 100 MW of solar energy over the next 15 years. The solar energy generated will cater to the energy needs of Votorantim Cimentosโ production units and distribution centers across the South, Southeast, and Midwest regions of Brazil.
This strategic partnership is expected to account for approximately one-third of Votorantim Cimentosโ energy consumption in the country, equivalent to powering 424,000 homes. The agreement, centered around the self-production PPA, aligns with Votorantim Cimentos’ decarbonization strategy, positioning renewable energy as a key element of its sustainability initiatives.
The energy generation will originate from Atlasโ Luiz Carlos Solar Project, situated in Paracatu, Minas Gerais, with an installed capacity of 787 MWp, where nearly two-thirds (470 MWp) will be dedicated to Votorantim Cimentos.
Carlos Barrera, CEO of Atlas Renewable Energy, expressed confidence in the partnership, stating, โThis partnership with Votorantim Cimentos confirms Atlasโ repeated ability to partner with blue-chip companies of Latin Americaโs industrial sector to help them make the energy transition.”
Votorantim Cimentos views this project as a crucial step in its decarbonization journey, aligned with its 2030 Sustainability Commitments. The company aims to increase efficiency, incorporate renewable energy, and enhance competitiveness across its operational regions.
The Luiz Carlos solar project, part of Votorantim Cimentosโ broader investment portfolio, signifies the company’s commitment to sustainable growth and long-term competitiveness. The project also aligns with Votorantim Cimentosโ goal to have 45% of its global energy consumption sourced from renewable sources by 2030.
The successful conclusion of the agreement is subject to standard conditions for operations of this nature, including approval from the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE).
