Bayer has installed a new solar array at its vegetable research and development site in Woodland, CA. It will supply 70% of the siteโs electrical energy demand.
The solar projects focus on reducing energy costs and promoting sustainability, unveiled at local events.
The initiatives follow a completed solar installation at Bayer’s Whippany, NJ offices. The company’s strategy, approved by the Science Based Targets initiative, involves purchasing 100% sustainable renewable electricity by 2030. Bayer prioritizes energy efficiency and clean resources to meet its sustainability targets, aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement. Utilizing renewable energy minimizes carbon emissions, contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gases.
โWith this new installation, the Woodland site is the most onsite solar-powered operation within Bayer globally,โ said Enrique Wehlen, Head of Sustainability, Safety, Health & Environments (SSHE) North America at Bayer.
โThese solar installations are a strong signal to our employees, customers and communities where we live and operate of our commitment to GHG emission reduction,โ said Delf Bintakies, Global Head of Sustainability, Safety, Health & Environments (SSHE) at Bayer. โBayer sets specific criteria for its own procurement of green energy. This includes the proximity of energy production facilities to Bayer sites, the use of new sources of generation and a focus on wind and solar power.โ
