In its commitment to harnessing renewable energy (RE) resources for energy security, the Department of Energy (DOE) in the Philippines is set to conduct the Third Round of the Green Energy Auction (GEA-3). The auction, scheduled for August 21, 2024, will focus on Non-Feed-In-Tariff (Non-FIT) Eligible RE Technologies, including Geothermal, Impounding Hydro, Pumped-Storage Hydro, and run-of-river (ROR) Hydro.

Under Department Circular No. DC2023-10-0029, the GEA-3 aims to provide a transparent and competitive platform for the selection of RE facilities. The indicative timeline reveals key dates, starting with the publication of the Notice of Auction on April 29, 2024, and concluding with the posting of the Notice of Award for Non-FIT RE Eligible Technologies on December 10, 2024.

The estimated capacities for Non-FIT Eligible RE Technologies include 699 MW from Impounding Hydro, 3,120 MW from Pumped-Storage Hydro, and 380 MW from Geothermal. The Delivery Commencement Period (DCP) for Impounding Hydro and Pumped-Storage Hydro is targeted from 2028 to 2030, while Geothermal is slated for DCP from 2024 to 2030.
