Turkey declared a significant advancement in its renewable energy sector, allocating 7,500 megawatts (MW) of renewable capacity for industrial use this year.
Emphasizing the role of renewables in reducing foreign energy dependence and lowering the current account deficit, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar stated that $5 billion in investments would be implemented promptly.
With an addition of over 2,800 MW in renewable energy capacity installations last year, Turkey increased the share of renewables in electricity production to 42%.
Bayraktar highlighted the national target of 5,000 MW of annual renewable energy additions, aligning with Turkey’s strategy to address the current account deficit and tackle climate change.
As the carbon border adjustment looms in 2026, he urged manufacturers to cut carbon emissions, underscoring the crucial role of renewable energy in this effort.
