Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for four major projects during the groundbreaking ceremony (GBC) 4.0 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, organized by Torrent Power. These projects, with an approximate investment of ₹25,000 crores, mark a significant step towards bolstering infrastructure and economic development in the state.

Attended by dignitaries including the Hon’ble Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Shrimati Anandiben Patel, Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath, and Hon’ble Minister of Defence, Government of India, Shri Rajnath Singh, the ceremony witnessed the initiation of over 14,000 projects spanning various sectors.

The projects to be developed by Torrent Power in Uttar Pradesh include:

  • Two Pumped Storage Hydro projects with a combined capacity of 4150 MWs in Sonbhadra district.
  • A 150 MWs solar power plant in Lalitpur district, enriching the Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh.
  • A pioneering pilot green hydrogen production facility in Gorakhpur, aiming to produce green hydrogen blended with the gas distribution network established by Torrent Gas. This endeavor is set to become one of the largest green hydrogen and natural gas blending projects in the country.

These ventures are anticipated to create employment opportunities for approximately 8,000 individuals in the state, contributing to both direct and indirect job growth. The projects materialized following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Torrent Group and the State of Uttar Pradesh during the UP Global Investors Summit 2023 (UPGIS 2023) held in February 2023.

This strategic collaboration between Torrent Power and the Uttar Pradesh government underscores a shared commitment to fostering sustainable development, enhancing energy infrastructure, and promoting economic prosperity in the region.
