With visionary leadership from His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE aims for a diverse, prosperous, and sustainable economy. The nation’s declaration almost a decade ago to celebrate the export of the last barrel of oil reflects a strategic move towards sustainability, aligning with global climate action.
The UAE played a pivotal role by hosting the 28th United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in Expo City Dubai, resulting in the historic ‘UAE Consensus’ agreement. As the Principal Pathway Partner of COP28, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) showcased significant clean and renewable energy projects, leading the transformation of Dubai’s electricity and water sector. Leveraging Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies, DEWA is spearheading a digital transformation for enhanced efficiency and customer service.
The Dubai Future Council on Energy’s study focuses on achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. DEWA’s commitment is evident in critical projects like the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, on track to achieve the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050. The ambitious plan to build the world’s largest solar energy-powered desalination plant in Hassyan underscores commitment to cleaner technologies and reducing environmental impact.
DEWA has ceased launching new projects using fossil fuels and prioritizes more efficient reverse osmosis technology in water desalination projects. Initiatives like the Innovation Centre and the Research & Development Centre at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park demonstrate DEWA’s commitment to innovation and Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies in advancing solar power technologies and addressing intermittency through storage solutions. The UAE pledges to continue implementing pioneering projects for a brighter, more sustainable future.
