Greentech Solar Energy, Inc. (GSEI) reached a significant milestone by initiating construction on its 18.75 MWac solar power plant in Bongabon, Nueva Ecija on February 21, 2024.
As a subsidiary of MGen Renewable Energy Inc. (MGreen), the renewable energy arm of Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGen), GSEI is dedicated to harnessing clean and renewable energy sources to fuel communities and spur economic development.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by representatives from MGen and MGreen, including EVP and Expanding Markets Division Head Dan Neil and Government Relations and Industry Affairs First Vice President Philip Dasalla, among others.
Dasalla reiterated the company’s commitment to sustainability by aiming to develop 1,500 MW of renewable energy projects by 2030. He emphasized the alignment of this goal with One Meralco’s long-term sustainability agenda and the government’s target of achieving a 35% renewable energy mix by 2030.
The event also saw the participation of representatives from the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor SUMEC Complete Equipment and Engineering Co. Ltd., led by Jason Wang, as well as local government officials including Nueva Ecijaโs 3rd District Representative Rosanna Vergara, Bongabon Mayor Ricardo Padilla, Vice Mayor Christian Binuya, and Pesa Brgy. Captain Angelito Dela Cruz. Their presence underscored the importance of collaboration in advancing progress and fostering a cleaner, greener future for generations to come.
As construction begins on the solar power plant, GSEI remains committed to upholding the highest standards of environmental sustainability, community engagement, and operational excellence.
Scheduled to commence commercial operations in the first quarter of 2025, GSEI emerged as one of the successful bidders in the Department of Energyโs (DOE) second round of the Green Energy Auction Program (GEAP-2).
