In a landmark move, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh of Vietnam announced the elevation of the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Australia to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

This significant milestone, declared during a joint press statement co-chaired by Prime Minister Chinh and his Australian counterpart, Anthony Albanese, in Canberra, Australia, on March 7, underscores the deepening cooperation between the two nations.

Prime Minister Chinh emphasized that the upgrade to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the highest level of cooperation between Vietnam and a foreign partner, serves the interests of both nations and contributes to regional and global peace, cooperation, and development.

He outlined six key areas of cooperation under this enhanced partnership, including increased political trust and diplomatic cooperation, deeper economic and trade ties, strengthened collaboration in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation, as well as expanded cooperation in culture, education, training, environment, and climate action.

The comprehensive partnership encompasses various areas of cooperation, including climate change and energy cooperation, digital transformation and innovation, trade and investment, agriculture, education, and defense.
