PROGRESIVA, a subsidiary of the Kontrolmatik group, has inked a significant energy storage deal with Chinese energy firm HARBIN (HEI). The collaboration sets the stage for Turkey’s pioneering energy initiative, the ‘First GWh Capacity WPP Energy Storage Facility’, slated for launch in Tekirdağ by 2025.

The agreement, sealed today in Ankara in the presence of Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz and Chinese Ambassador Liu Shaobin, outlines HEI’s financing of the project. POMEGA, another arm of the Kontrolmatik group, will supply local storage systems, while Kontrolmatik itself will oversee electrical and construction operations.

Anticipated for provisional acceptance in 2027, the 1 GWh storage facility is on track for a 2025 commissioning. Alongside, a wind power plant (WPP) boasting an annual production capacity of 875 million kWh hours will be integrated into the facility, marking a significant step forward in Turkey’s renewable energy landscape.
