PLN President Director, Darmawan Prasodjo, highlighted the company’s pivotal role in driving the country’s energy transition agenda. PLN remains committed to forging synergies with both national and global partners to expedite the widespread adoption of new renewable energy (EBT). This initiative aligns seamlessly with the Indonesian government’s overarching goal of achieving Net Zero Emissions (NZE) by 2060 or earlier.

Speaking at the PLN-CEEC High-Level Business Meeting, Darmawan emphasized the significance of the collaboration, especially in anticipation of the upcoming release of a new National Electricity Business Plan (RUKN). The plan is expected to introduce regulations pertaining to the establishment of large-scale EBT plants and green transmission lines connecting various islands across the nation.

Elaborating on the RUKN, Darmawan revealed the strategic allocation of resources towards bolstering Indonesia’s EBT ecosystem. The plan outlines the deployment of hydro and geothermal-based generators totalling 32 Gigawatts (GW), alongside solar and wind-based generators amounting to 28 GW. Notably, the development of green transmission lines assumes paramount importance in facilitating the seamless distribution of green electricity among islands.

Addressing the infrastructural challenges, Darmawan emphasized the necessity of connecting hydro and geothermal sources with the load centers across different islands. This necessitates the establishment of green transmission lines linking Sumatra to Java, Kalimantan to Java, East Nusa Tenggara to Java, and Kalimantan to Sulawesi, which constitutes a significant project in itself.

Echoing PLN’s commitment, Song Hailiang, Chairman of CEEC Group, expressed unwavering support towards Indonesia’s NZE goal. Leveraging their extensive experience in developing EBT projects, CEEC stands ready to collaborate closely with the Indonesian government in realizing the ambitious target by 2060 or earlier.

This collaborative endeavor underscores a shared commitment towards sustainable energy development and environmental stewardship.
