ESA Starts Construction at AdventHealth’s Corporate Headquarters Installing a Large-Scale 3 MW Solar Project

AdventHealth is embarking on a significant environmental initiative by commencing the construction of a substantial solar energy project at its headquarters in Altamonte Springs, Florida. This initiative reflects the health system’s dedication to environmental sustainability and carbon emission reduction.

The project, led by ESA, a national solar developer based in Maitland, Florida, involves the installation of over 7,500 solar panels atop four buildings and two parking structures within AdventHealth’s corporate campus. The plan also includes the construction of solar canopies across the parking lot and the addition of 62 electric vehicle charging stations, signifying a robust push towards sustainable energy use and support for electric vehicles.

Christine Stewart, Vice President of Organizational Integration and Campus Administration at AdventHealth, highlighted the project’s alignment with the organization’s sustainability goals. She emphasized the importance of such initiatives in promoting the well-being of team members, patients, communities, and the environment. The project aims to cut down the campus’s reliance on conventional electricity by approximately one-third, resulting in an estimated $20 million savings over 20 years. Upon its completion by the end of 2024, it will be one of the largest private corporate solar installations in Florida, capable of generating enough electricity to power over 550 homes annually.

This initiative is part of AdventHealth’s broader environmental strategy, which includes a commitment to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions from electricity by 50% by 2030, in line with the U.S. Health and Human Services Health Sector Climate Pledge. The health system is also exploring virtual power purchase agreements for large-scale renewable energy projects and engaging in community energy projects, underlining its commitment to sustainable energy solutions within the healthcare sector.
