Enppi And Petrojet To Build 10MW Solar Power Station At Assiut Oil Refinery, Egypt

The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has assigned Enppi and Petrojet, prominent firms in engineering design and construction for the petroleum industry, to construct a 10-megawatt solar power station at the Assiut Oil Refinery. Valued at EGP 550 million, the project is expected to be completed within the next 11 months.

Recently announced by the ministry, these endeavors are part of ongoing initiatives to utilize solar energy effectively. Another project involves generating 6.5 megawatts of electricity at the Egyptian General Petroleum Company, costing EGP 500 million. Both projects are financed by a European Union grant, under the “Support to Energy Policy Reform” program, alleviating any financial strain on the petroleum sector. These efforts demonstrate the ministry’s commitment to translating strategic plans into concrete projects.

These initiatives hold strategic significance on multiple fronts. They provide renewable energy options, reduce strain on the national power grid, address rising electricity demands, and contribute to meeting domestic and industrial needs. Furthermore, they help conserve petroleum fuels typically used for electricity generation.

In addition to these efforts, the petroleum sector has initiated two pilot projects to generate solar-powered electricity for production wells. Collaborating with leading companies, these projects utilize advanced solar cell systems and energy storage batteries to ensure continuous power supply. The findings from these trials will guide broader implementation across remote production sites, aiming to increase value, reduce petroleum imports, phase out diesel generators, and achieve optimal environmental and economic outcomes.
