Indus Towers Ltd, a prominent infrastructure provider for mobile telecommunications in India, has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NTPC Green Energy, a subsidiary of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), to jointly develop grid-connected renewable energy projects. This partnership aims to significantly enhance Indus Towers’ renewable energy capabilities to Giga Watt scale across its nationwide operations, aligning with its Net Zero ambitions.
The collaboration marks a strategic move by Indus Towers to integrate more sustainable energy solutions into its business model, which includes the provision of tower, power, and space solutions, as well as innovations in smart cities and green technologies.
Indus Towers is driving research and development in new energy sources through its Flagship CSR Program โ Pragati. A recent groundbreaking initiative under this program includes the establishment of R&D Laboratories for Green Hydrogen with Solar Integration and Battery Management System at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. These facilities were inaugurated by Manoj Kumar Singh, Chief Regulatory Officer and CSR at Indus Towers, alongside Prof. Raghunathan Rengaswamy and Prof. R. Sarathi from IIT Madras.
The Green Hydrogen Microgrid at the labs is designed to produce hydrogen from renewable sources to power stationary systems, while the Battery Engineering Lab focuses on developing advanced Battery Management Systems. These systems are essential for ensuring the efficient and safe performance of batteries, particularly in electric vehicles (EVs), under various stress conditions. These initiatives are poised to play a crucial role in advancing India’s journey towards energy independence.
