Statkraft AS to Invest BRL 926 Million in Solar Capacity Expansion in Bahia, Brazil

Norwegian state-owned energy company Statkraft AS has announced plans to invest BRL 926 million (USD 180.7m/EUR 168.6m) in the installation of 275 MW of solar capacity at two operating wind parks in the Brazilian state of Bahia.

Dubbed Sol de Brotas, the solar asset will be integrated with the existing Ventos de Santa Eugenia complex, which has a capacity of approximately 519 MW, and the Morro do Cruzeiro wind power complex, with a capacity of 79.8 MW. Statkraft Energias Renovaveis SA, the company’s local unit.

Utilizing Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) technology, Sol de Brotas is scheduled to commence construction by the end of May 2024 at Morro do Cruzeiro, with construction at Ventos de Santa Eugenia slated to begin in July 2024.

The solar complex will be commissioned in two phases, with operations commencing in Morro do Cruzeiro in August 2025, followed by Ventos de Santa Eugenia in November 2025, according to Statkraft.
