UEM Group Berhad Partners with ITRAMAS and CMEC to Develop Renewable Energy Industrial Park in Johor

UEM Group Berhad, through its subsidiary UEM Sunrise Berhad, has joined hands with ITRAMAS Corporation Sdn Bhd and China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) to establish a Renewable Energy (RE) Industrial Park spanning 40 acres in Gerbang Nusajaya, Iskandar Puteri, Johor. This initiative is part of Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and aims to contribute to the country’s goal of generating 40% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.

The agreement, signed by representatives from the partnering companies, outlines UEM Sunrise’s role as the investor and engineering provider, while ITRAMAS and CMEC will act as purchasers for the electricity generated by the projects. The RE Industrial Park, a key component of the one gigawatt (GW) hybrid solar power plant project, will attract manufacturers, suppliers, and industry players across the RE and Electric Vehicle (EV) value chains, as well as high-tech Research and Development (R&D) companies.

Speaking about the collaboration, Dato’ Mohd Izani Ghani, Managing Director of UEM Group, emphasized the significance of attracting Chinese manufacturers and suppliers to enhance the viability and impact of the project. He highlighted the importance of cross-border collaboration in driving sustainable development and achieving national energy goals.

Sufian Abdullah, CEO of UEM Sunrise, emphasized the strategic location of Gerbang Nusajaya and its proximity to Singapore, which enhances the industrial appeal of the RE Industrial Park to international investors. He expressed confidence in developing a sustainable industrial park that supports Malaysia’s energy transformation agenda.

Lee Choo Boo, Managing Director of ITRAMAS, highlighted the partnership’s commitment to advancing Malaysia’s energy sector and sustainable development. He underscored the significance of the RE Hub within the park, featuring cutting-edge facilities for solar module manufacturing and advanced research centers.

Fang Yanshui, General Manager of CMEC, emphasized the long-term partnership with UEM Group and ITRAMAS, focusing on renewable energy, industrial parks, infrastructure, and data centers. He highlighted CMEC’s expertise in new energy and its alignment with Malaysian partners’ interests, marking the signing of the MOU as a new starting point for multidisciplinary cooperation.

The establishment of the RE Industrial Park signifies a significant step towards achieving Malaysia’s renewable energy targets and fostering sustainable economic growth in Johor.
