SMEDA has announced the commencement of applications for a specialized training program in green hydrogen and renewable energy. The program, spanning five weeks, targets SMEs and start-ups, aiming to equip entrepreneurs with essential skills for entering the renewables industry and accelerating company growth.
In collaboration with TAFE NSW, an Australian vocational education institution, the program will cover various topics including climate change, biomass, and electric vehicles. Workshops on business development, business matching, and global operations will also be featured. International and local experts in the field are expected to participate as speakers.
Oman aims to achieve an annual production rate of 1 million tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030, potentially becoming the world’s sixth-largest exporter in the sector, with projected revenues reaching $2 billion annually from exports and domestic use by 2030. Long-term forecasts suggest these revenues could rise to “double-digit USD billion levels.”
Oman’s National Strategy for the Orderly Transition to Net Zero aims to contribute an additional 50% to GDP by 2050, driven largely by domestic investments in hydrogen infrastructure and expanded green power capacity.
Applications for the program can be submitted through SMEDA’s website until June 13, 2024. The training sessions are scheduled to run from June 23 to July 24, 2024.
