Ooredoo, Qatar’s foremost telecommunications operator and ICT provider, has unveiled its groundbreaking “Clean Energy – Super Hybrid” program aimed at transforming energy consumption at its mobile outdoor sites. This innovative initiative integrates a variety of eco-friendly energy sources, including solar power and wind energy, to significantly reduce carbon emissions and enhance sustainability.

The program, rigorously tested through numerous Proof-of-Concepts between 2023 and 2024, prioritizes solar power during daylight hours while seamlessly switching to alternative sources as needed. This strategic approach not only reduces carbon dioxide emissions but also diminishes the carbon footprint associated with mobile sites across Qatar.

Following successful pilot implementations at various locations, the “Clean Energy – Super Hybrid” system has proven highly effective and adaptable to Qatar’s unique environmental conditions. Ooredoo plans to roll out this green initiative across all its mobile sites by 2026, anticipating savings of approximately 140 tonnes of CO2 per site over 25 years—equivalent to planting 21,000 trees. Moreover, the initiative is expected to yield substantial operational cost savings by reducing dependency on fuel-reliant towers.
