Savion has announced the completion of an agreement to sell the 150 megawatt (MW) Cass County Solar Project to Ameren Missouri. Located near Beardstown, Illinois, the project spans approximately 1,700 acres and will incorporate up to 330,000 solar modules. Additionally, about 600 acres outside the project area will be restored to farming use through vegetation.

Savion secured permit approval for the project in 2020 and commenced construction in June 2023. Ameren Missouri obtained approval and a certificate of convenience and necessity for the transaction from the Missouri Public Service Commission in June 2024, facilitating the ownership transfer of the Cass County Solar Project.

Nick Lincon, President of Savion, expressed appreciation to Ameren Missouri for their commitment in bringing the project to fruition, marking Savion’s first utility-scale solar venture in Illinois. Lincon also acknowledged the support received from the local community, landowners, and stakeholders throughout the development process.

Construction is slated for completion by the end of 2024, having created approximately 250 local union jobs during the construction phase. Once operational, the Cass County Solar Project is expected to generate 150 MW of renewable solar energy, contributing to the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) power grid. This output is projected to meet the annual energy needs of approximately 27,500 homes served by Ameren Missouri customers.
