The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of Indonesia, in collaboration with the Norwegian Ministry of Energy, concluded the 10th Indonesia-Norway Bilateral Energy Consultations (INBEC) Meeting with significant advancements in energy cooperation. The two-day meeting, held in Jakarta, highlighted key areas for potential collaboration including renewable energy, electrification, CCS/CCUS, and hydrogen.
Mirza Mahendra, Director of Oil and Gas Program Development and Head of the Indonesian Delegation emphasized Indonesia’s eagerness to learn from Norway’s advancements in Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), particularly in creating a viable market and regulatory framework.
“We are keen to explore Norway’s expertise in offshore oil and gas development, which could be instrumental in our own energy strategies,” remarked Mirza, underscoring Indonesia’s interest in leveraging Norwegian technologies for offshore wind power as well.
The meeting also saw the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between educational institutions and energy firms from both nations, aiming to foster collaborative research and development in sustainable geoscience and energy transition.
With Indonesia progressing towards a Net Zero Emission (NZE) goal by 2060, collaborations forged at the INBEC are expected to accelerate the country’s energy transition and bolster energy security.
