The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) achieved a major milestone in 2025 by adding 1,000MW of clean energy production capacity, marking significant progress in the sixth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. This achievement underscores DEWA’s commitment to accelerating renewable energy projects in line with global standards.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, highlighted that the milestone reflects the vision and directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to transition rapidly to renewable energy sources and reinforce Dubai’s status as a global leader in sustainability and energy innovation.

“The project demonstrates long-term planning and phased implementation, enhancing the resilience of the energy system while meeting the demands of economic growth and sustainable development,” Al Tayer said.

The achievement aligns with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy and the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, which targets 100% of energy production from clean sources by mid-century. The milestone also reflects DEWA’s focus on expanding clean energy capacity, strengthening system readiness for population and economic growth, and establishing a sustainable energy production model driven by innovation and operational efficiency.

Launched in 2012 by HH Sheikh Mohammed, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is one of the UAE’s strategic renewable energy projects. With this latest addition, the park’s total production capacity has reached 3,860MW, and it is expected to surpass 8,000MW by 2030, exceeding the original plan of 5,000MW. The expansion is projected to reduce carbon emissions by over 8.5 million tonnes annually, reinforcing Dubai’s position as a hub for a knowledge-based green economy.

DEWA’s renewable energy expansion continues, with the seventh phase of the solar park tendered in 2025 and the remaining 800MW of the sixth phase expected online by Q4 2026, further advancing Dubai’s clean energy ambitions.
