Savion has announced the start of commercial operations for the Madison Fields Solar Project (MFSP) in Madison County, Ohio. The 180-megawatt (MW) solar facility is notable for being the first project designed, developed, constructed, and owned entirely by Savion.
The MFSP will be supplying its full 180 MW capacity to Amazon, which has secured a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the project. The solar facility, a joint venture between Savion and funds managed by InfraRed Capital Partners, will see Shell serving as the asset manager. Over its anticipated lifespan of 35-40 years, MFSP is expected to generate enough energy to power approximately 38,000 homes in Ohio each year.
Nick Lincon, President of Savion, stated, โThe commencement of the Madison Fields Solar Project highlights our and Shellโs commitment to delivering green energy and value to customers like Amazon. This milestone not only marks Savionโs first fully constructed and owned solar project but also reinforces our dedication to renewable energy development across the U.S., with over 1.8 gigawatts in operation, under contract, or under construction. We are immensely proud of our teamโs efforts in bringing this project online.โ
In addition to its operational achievements, MFSP is pioneering the integration of forage crop production within the solar array. Savionโs subsidiary, โBetween the Rows,โ is leading this agrivoltaics initiative, which combines agriculture with sustainable land management practices. This innovative approach, supported by a partnership with The Ohio State Universityโs College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, involves the cultivation of forage crops such as hay and alfalfa alongside solar panels, promoting soil health and precision agriculture.
