PT PLN (Persero) and the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) have signed a significant Protocol of Cooperation focusing on Energy Transition Investment at the 2nd Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) summit in Jakarta. This collaboration aims to bolster PLN’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) framework and promote a sustainable business ecosystem.

Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs and Chair of the AZEC Steering Committee reaffirmed Indonesia’s dedication to energy transition while balancing economic growth and energy security. “The Asia Zero Emission Community Center represents a crucial step toward a sustainable future. We must act urgently and decisively against climate change,” Hartarto said.

Rosan Roeslani, Minister of Investment and Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), highlighted the AZEC platform’s role in advancing regional decarbonization. โ€œThe AZEC Center will facilitate technology transfer, knowledge sharing, capacity building, and financial mobilization among member countries to develop effective clean energy policies,โ€ Roeslani noted.

Darmawan Prasodjo, PLN’s President Director, emphasized PLNโ€™s role in Indonesiaโ€™s energy transition. “While the energy transition poses challenges, it also presents significant opportunities for growth, collaboration, and innovation. This partnership showcases global cooperation towards environmental sustainability,” Prasodjo stated.

Sinthya Roesly, PLNโ€™s Finance Director, reflected on the longstanding collaboration with JBIC, which spans nearly two decades. “This new protocol will enhance our efforts in energy transition and decarbonization through financial support, capacity development, and green financing,” Roesly explained.

Hiroki Sekine, Managing Executive Officer Global Heads of Infrastructure and Environment Finance Group at JBIC, expressed optimism about the partnership. “This collaboration aligns with Japan’s commitment to the AZEC initiative. We look forward to deepening our cooperation to achieve carbon neutrality,” Sekine concluded.
