Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL), Indiaโs largest private transmission and distribution company, has announced the completion of its acquisition of the Khavda Phase-IV Part-A transmission project. The acquisition follows a letter of intent (LOI) from REC Power Development and Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL). This move solidifies AESL’s leadership in India’s energy transition and reaffirms its status as the largest private sector transmission player in the country.
The Khavda IVA Power Transmission Ltd, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) established by RECPDCL, was created to evacuate 7 GW of Renewable Energy (RE) from the Khavda RE park. AESL’s acquisition of this SPV enables the execution of the project, which includes the installation of 765 kV double circuit lines connecting Khavda to Lakadia and Bhuj in Gujarat, alongside a transformation capacity of 4,500 MVA.
Khavda, known as the worldโs largest renewable energy park with a planned capacity of 30 GW, is a critical component of Indiaโs decarbonization strategy. The project, awarded to AESL through the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process, will enhance the infrastructure needed for the evacuation of clean energy. AESLโs investment will transform Khavda from a barren area into a key player in Indiaโs journey toward net zero.
AESL will invest approximately Rs 4,091 crore in the 298 km (596 ckm) transmission project, which includes the installation of 300 MVAr STATCOM and three 1,500 MVA, 765/400 kV Inter-connecting Transformers (ICTs) with additional bus reactors.
Mr. Kandarp Patel, Chief Executive Officer of AESL, commented, โKhavdaโs role as the worldโs largest renewable energy park necessitates a power evacuation infrastructure that is world-class, resilient, and future-ready. This investment will not only establish the crucial transmission network for the planned 30 GW of green power but also ensure grid stability. AESL is honored to contribute to this project, which will facilitate the seamless integration of green energy into the national grid and support Indiaโs net zero objectives.โ
