Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), India’s largest renewable energy company, and TotalEnergies have announced a strategic joint venture (JV), equally owned by both companies, to manage a portfolio of solar projects with a combined capacity of 1,150 MW. These projects are located within the world’s largest renewable energy plant in Khavda, Gujarat. AGEL will contribute its existing assets to the JV, while TotalEnergies will invest USD 444 million to accelerate project development.
The partnership highlights AGEL and TotalEnergies’ commitment to supporting India’s clean energy transition. The 1,150 MW solar energy generated by the projects will be sold through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and via sales on the wholesale market.
AGEL is currently developing the world’s largest renewable energy plant at Khavda, spanning 538 square kilometers—an area five times larger than Paris. The site has already achieved a cumulative operational capacity of 2,250 MW in solar and wind energy. Once fully operational, the plant will supply clean energy to over 16 million homes, create more than 15,200 green jobs, and reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 58 million tons annually.
The completion of the transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals.
