In an exclusive interview, Cyril Colin, CEO and Co-founder of Elum Energy, outlines the company’s strategic vision for growth amid the global shift to renewable energy. As a leader in turnkey energy management solutions, Elum Energy is advancing the integration of solar PV, battery storage, and EV infrastructure into power grids worldwide.
Colin discusses plans to expand operations across Europe, Asia, Latin America, and the U.S., while driving product innovation to meet the needs of commercial, industrial, and utility-scale clients. He highlights Elum’s approach to overcoming regional challenges, maintaining grid stability, and enhancing renewable asset performance.
The interview also delves into Elum Energy’s dedication to multi-brand compatibility, strategic partnerships for seamless integration, and efforts to align EV charging infrastructure with renewable sources. With a goal of managing 5GW of renewable assets by 2025, Colin details the strategies and milestones that will support Elum Energy’s mission to drive a sustainable energy transition worldwide.
1. Following its recent financial results, what are Elum Energy’s future plans for growth, particularly in terms of product innovation, market expansion, and operational scaling?
Elum Energyโs future growth plans focus on scaling operations to meet the increasing demand for renewable energy solutions. We are actively expanding into the European, Asian, and Latin American markets, as well as entering new geographies such as the U.S., while developing innovative products that integrate battery storage and EV charging capabilities.
Additionally, we are committed to enhancing our software technology to better serve the evolving needs of our commercial, industrial, and utility-scale clients, further advancing our mission to facilitate the integration of renewable energies worldwide.
2. What role does Elum Energy envision in the global renewable energy market, and how are its solutions tailored to address the unique challenges and opportunities across different regions?
We aim to be a leading player in the global renewable energy market by developing monitoring and control solutions that address the complex challenges of integrating diverse renewable energy components, such as solar PV, battery storage, and EV infrastructure, into power grids.
Elum Energy’s solutions contribute to maintaining grid stability and reliability while ensuring the optimal performance of renewable assets. Our technology enables real-time adjustments and efficient management of energy sources, mitigating the instability that often arises when integrating intermittent renewable sources into the grid, all while complying with local regulations.
3. How does Elum Energy ensure the compatibility of its solutions with a wide range of OEM products across various renewable energy systems, and what partnerships or standards support this?
Elum Energy is committed to interoperability and ensuring multi-brand compatibility. Our solutions integrate with 95% of the equipment on the market, including solar inverters, battery energy storage systems (BESS), EV chargers, and sensors. This is achieved through a flexible and continuously evolving blueprint technology, a no-code solution that enables rapid integration of new devices, reducing setup time from days to hours. We also leverage widely adopted protocols like Modbus TCP/RTU to facilitate smooth integration across systems, from microgrids to utility-scale projects.
Furthermore, the company has developed a robust ecosystem of local partners to provide tailored support. Strategic partnerships with key OEMs and local integrators enhance our flexibility, allowing us to offer localized support for installation and maintenance.
4. What steps is Elum Energy taking to optimize the integration of EV charging infrastructure with renewable energy sources, and how does this support efficient grid management?
We optimize the integration of EV charging infrastructure by developing a dedicated solution that controls and supervises EV charging stations, including battery storage systems. By dynamically adjusting charging speeds based on real-time factors such as solar energy production, battery state of charge, and building load, Elum ensures the efficient use of renewable energy. This approach reduces reliance on the grid, maximizes solar energy utilization, and minimizes curtailment.
Elum Energy is also optimizing grid management for EV charging by enabling excess solar energy to accelerate EV charging or be stored (injection limitation), thus reducing grid overload. Additionally, we cut grid imports during peak times by using BESS for peak shaving and optimize charging during off-peak hours through night mode and weekend scheduling.
5. What are the key strategies and milestones Elum Energy has outlined to achieve its target of integrating 5GW of renewable energy projects by 2025?
Our objective is to manage 5GW of renewable assets by 2025 through the expansion of our multi-local presence. In 2024, Elum Energy opened several offices in key regions, such as Spain, Nigeria, and Madagascar. We currently have over 2,500 projects across 50 countries and serve more than 350 clients.
In 2025, we plan to further increase our local presence through partnerships and distribution while strengthening our foothold in the utility-scale market. Elumโs growth relies on our commitment to interoperability, customer autonomy, and delivering long-term value for both mature and emerging renewable markets.
