Cyprus will host the 2nd MED9 Ministerial Meeting on Energy, aimed at enhancing energy cooperation among nine Mediterranean member states of the European Union. Under the leadership of Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry Mr. Giorgos Papanastasiou, the meeting will take place at the Radisson Blu hotel in Larnaca from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Attendees will include Energy Ministers or their representatives from France, Greece, Italy, Spain, Croatia, Malta, Portugal, and Slovenia, along with officials from the European Commission and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
The agenda is divided into three key discussions. First, the Ministers will explore the establishment of a Mediterranean hub for the transfer of green energy, which could bolster energy security and foster peace in the region.
The second session will focus on developing synergies among the MED9 for licensing cross-border green projects, vital for realizing their collective vision of an energy hub in the Mediterranean.
Following a family photo at 12:15 PM, a joint press conference will be held where Mr. Papanastasiou will unveil the Joint Declaration of the MED9 Energy Ministers. The meeting will conclude with a working lunch dedicated to creating a policy framework for offshore renewable energy technologies, including wind, floating photovoltaics, and wave energy.
This ministerial meeting signifies a crucial step towards transforming the Mediterranean into a leading center for green energy transfer, aligning with broader EU energy goals.
