Helmy, Hamza & Partners, the Baker McKenzie Cairo office, has provided legal counsel to AMEA Power on two major renewable energy initiatives in Egypt, marking significant milestones in the countryโ€™s green energy transition.

The first project involves the development of a 1000 MWh solar power plant, alongside a 600 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). This venture, following AMEA Powerโ€™s first successful solar project in Egypt, represents the first instance of integrating batteries into Egyptโ€™s solar energy infrastructure. The project is also Egypt’s first Build-Own-Operate (BOO) solar development to be constructed in phases, highlighting a new approach to energy generation in the region.

In the second transaction, AMEA Power worked on the integration of a 300 MWh BESS into the existing 500 MW Abydos Solar Power project. This addition will enhance energy stability by managing power fluctuations, reducing dependence on fossil fuels, and ensuring a more balanced energy grid through optimized renewable energy use.

Mohamed El Harmy, Partner at Helmy, Hamza & Partners, who led the Baker McKenzie Cairo team, praised the significance of these projects, saying, “These pioneering projects mark a monumental step in Egyptโ€™s journey towards a sustainable energy future. Our collaboration with AMEA Power reflects our commitment to advancing renewable energy solutions, shaping a greener and more resilient energy landscape for Egypt and the region.”

The Baker McKenzie Cairo team included Counsel Ghada El Gharib, Senior Associate Ahmed Shehata, and Associate Omar Mahmoud, with additional support from the Corporate team led by Ghada El Ehwany and Associate Marah Hashem.

These projects reinforce AMEA Powerโ€™s role as a leading player in the renewable energy sector and emphasize Egyptโ€™s growing position in sustainable energy development.
