Bboxx has been awarded Gold Standard certification for its clean energy projects across five African countries, a significant milestone in the fight against climate change and energy poverty, while also enhancing market growth potential.
As a data-driven super platform, Bboxx aims to transform lives and unlock potential by connecting consumers and deploying innovative products throughout Africa, thereby building community resilience. The newly awarded certification recognizes a diverse portfolio of clean energy solutions, including solar home systems, PAYGO clean cooking solutions, and solar-powered water pumps. These projects have already achieved substantial emissions reductions and are projected to generate up to 60,000 carbon credits annually, presenting a scalable model for sustainable development.
The Gold Standard certification applies to Bboxxโs operations in Rwanda, Kenya, Nigeria, Togo, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Collectively, these projects are expected to offset more than 20 million tons of carbon emissions, generating approximately USD $100 million worth of carbon credits and positively impacting over 4 million Bboxx customers.
The Gold Standard is a voluntary carbon offset program aimed at advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) while ensuring that projects benefit local communities. It focuses on initiatives that provide lasting social, economic, and environmental benefits.
Anthony Osijo, Chief Executive Officer of Bboxx, commented, โBboxx is leading the way in delivering a range of clean energy solutions. Our mission is to accelerate clean energy access and adoption. The deployment of carbon credits will facilitate increased capital flow into this crucial aspect of the energy transition in Africa.”
He further emphasized, โThis Gold Standard certification solidifies Bboxx’s position as a leader in decentralized clean energy, showcasing our dedication to innovation, social impact, and environmental stewardship while meeting the evolving expectations of our consumers. Itโs our responsibility to commit to scalability and ensure weโre providing more people access to innovative solutions that build community resilience and present significant market opportunities.โ
Bboxxโs clean cooking program provides families with access to safer cooking fuels, allowing them to pay only for the energy they consume. By investing in this carbon offsetting initiative, the company aims to create annual credits by replacing traditional cookstoves with efficient LPG stoves.
Additionally, Bboxx’s Solar Home Systems are set to generate further carbon credits each year. These systems revolutionize the lives of families and small businesses in remote and peri-urban areas of Africa by providing renewable energy for homes and charging electronic devices, enabling operations beyond daylight hours.
