Global EPC company Neosun Energy has signed an agreement to install a 1 MW rooftop solar station at Dayizenza Mall in Nelspruit, South Africa. The project, with a capacity of 998 kWp, represents a significant step towards sustainability for the mall and highlights Neosun Energy’s expansion in the South African market.
Jeanine Jackson, Head of Sales for NEOSUN South Africa, emphasized the environmental and financial benefits of the project, which is expected to reduce electricity costs by 50-60% over its 40-year lifespan. “This solar power plant will not only bring significant savings but also support the transition to clean energy solutions,” said Jackson.
The project boasts an internal rate of return (IRR) of 53% and a payback period of just 12 months, thanks in part to the Section 12B government tax incentive. Cumulative savings are expected to exceed R164 million over the plant’s lifetime, making it a cost-effective renewable energy investment.
In addition to financial gains, the solar station is projected to cut 25,807 tons of CO2 emissions, positioning Dayizenza Mall as a leader in promoting sustainability in the Nelspruit region. Jackson further noted that this initiative serves as a model for other businesses in South Africa to explore the financial and environmental advantages of renewable energy.
Neosun Energy has already begun work on the project and recently opened new branches in Cape Town and Johannesburg to better serve local customers. With South Africa facing energy challenges such as load shedding and rising electricity costs, solar energy is viewed as a viable solution for businesses. CEO of Neosun Energy, Ilya Likhov, stated, “Our entry into the South African market comes at a critical time, and we are committed to helping local enterprises overcome energy access issues with advanced solar solutions.”
Likhov emphasized that Neosunโs solar technologies will enhance the profitability and efficiency of South African businesses while contributing to sustainable energy practices.
