Tata Power and Rajasthan Ink Landmark MoU for ₹1.2 Lakh Crore Investment

Tata Power has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Rajasthan during the Rising Rajasthan Investor Meet in New Delhi. The MoU outlines an ambitious investment of approximately ₹1.2 lakh crore over the next decade, aiming to transform Rajasthan into a power-surplus state by delivering 24/7 clean, affordable, and reliable energy.

The plan includes significant investments in renewable energy projects, manufacturing, transmission, distribution, nuclear power, rooftop solar installations, and EV charging infrastructure.

This partnership places Rajasthan at the forefront of India’s clean energy transition, contributing substantially to the national goal of installing 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2070. By leveraging Rajasthan’s vast solar potential, Tata Power is helping the state become a leading renewable energy hub while supporting India’s global leadership in clean energy.

The MoU is expected to generate a transformative socio-economic impact, creating over 28,000 direct jobs in Rajasthan. Tata Power’s investments will bolster local industries in solar manufacturing, infrastructure development, and renewable energy innovations. Additionally, the large-scale integration of renewable energy is anticipated to reduce energy costs for industries and consumers, making Rajasthan a prime destination for green investments and sustainable industrial growth.

The company’s commitment to Rajasthan’s development is further reflected in its Ajmer Distribution operations, serving over 1 lakh customers with reliable electricity. Tata Power also manages the 340 km Bikaner-Neemrana Transmission Project, which evacuates 7.7 GW of renewable energy from the state.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Rajasthan’s Chief Minister, Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma; Col Rajyavardhan Rathore, Minister for Industry & Commerce; and senior government officials, reaffirming the state’s dedication to industrial growth and sustainable energy. The agreement encompasses investments across the power value chain, including reforms in generation, transmission, and distribution, as well as innovative renewable energy projects like solar, wind, hybrid systems, battery energy storage, rooftop solar, and EV charging infrastructure.

This MoU outlines a vision where every household and industry in Rajasthan benefits from reliable, 24/7 clean energy. Key highlights include:

– ₹1.2 lakh crore investment with ₹75,000 crore focused on renewable energy projects

– Development of 10,000 MW of renewable energy capacity (6,000 MW solar and 4,000 MW hybrid) across Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Barmer, and Jodhpur

– Establishment of a 2,000 MW solar module manufacturing facility in Jodhpur with a ₹2,000 crore investment to boost India’s domestic production

– ₹30,000 crore investment to modernize Rajasthan’s grid infrastructure, reducing energy losses and enhancing power quality—₹20,000 crore for distribution and ₹10,000 crore for transmission systems

– ₹1,000 crore investment to install 1 lakh EV charging points across the state, positioning Rajasthan as a leader in India’s e-mobility transition

– Installation of rooftop solar systems for 10 lakh households, supporting the PM Surya Ghar Yojana
