In a major sustainability milestone, Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) has partnered with ADNEC Group to fully power Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) using renewable and clean energy. This collaboration positions ADNEC as the first and largest event venue in the Middle East to achieve full-scale clean energy usage, setting a new sustainability standard in the UAE’s Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector.
Under this strategic partnership, all of ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi’s grid power needs will be met by EWEC’s renewable energy sources, verified by Clean Energy Certificates (CECs) from the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy. The agreement will not only reduce ADNEC’s carbon footprint but will also enhance the group’s status as a global leader in sustainable event management.
Othman Al Ali, EWEC’s CEO, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, stating: “Our partnership with ADNEC Group to decarbonise their power consumption exemplifies our commitment to increasing renewable and clean energy in the UAE. By supporting organisations in reducing Scope 2 emissions, we’re driving the UAE’s clean energy goals forward.”
This collaboration marks a key step towards the UAE’s net-zero ambitions and serves as a model for sustainable practices in the international events space hosted in Abu Dhabi.
