Residents of Polewali Island in South Sulawesi are grateful for the impact of PLN’s SuperSUN program, which has brought clean, 24-hour electricity to several islands, including Saugi, Sapuli, and Laiya. Before the program, the community only had access to electricity for 4 hours each evening, relying on generators. With the new initiative, they now enjoy a continuous supply of electricity, improving daily life and boosting local businesses.

The SuperSUN program includes the installation of 224 solar-powered energy systems, each with a capacity of 440 Wp to 700 Wp and 2 kWh storage. The community now only needs to pay around IDR 50,000 per month for electricity, compared to IDR 210 per month for just 4 hours of generator use.

Electricity has also helped local businesses, such as those selling cold food and drinks, to grow. With refrigeration now available, these businesses have seen increased profits, with some earning up to IDR 250 per day. The availability of power has also had a positive effect on health services. Health centers no longer have to rely on limited generator power, ensuring that medical staff can provide better care, especially in emergencies.

PLNโ€™s Director General, Darmawan Prasodjo, emphasized the importance of this innovative solution for remote and hard-to-reach areas and plans to expand the SuperSUN program to more regions. He noted that this initiative is part of PLNโ€™s broader commitment to improving the electrification ratio in Indonesia, aiming to bring affordable, renewable electricity to every corner of the country.

By September 2024, South Sulawesi is expected to have nearly 100% electrification. PLNโ€™s efforts are aligned with the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, supporting sustainable economic growth in the region.
