The COVID-19 pandemic brought out weaknesses in global supply chains, showing how reliant they were on complex, connected networks that were easily disrupted. Factory closures, transportation delays, and a spike in demand for certain products caused widespread shortages. This highlighted the need for stronger supply chain systems that can quickly adjust to unexpected disruptions while keeping goods and services flowing smoothly.

Even after the pandemic, global supply chains are still facing difficulties. Economic instability caused by changing inflation rates, energy shortages, and political tensions, especially for industries relying on vital resources, continues to pose challenges. At the same time, the move towards digital technology and environmentally-friendly solutions has added more complexity, bringing both opportunities and risks to supply chain operations.

In response to these challenges and opportunities, ADBI and KDI are teaming up to host the “ADBI-KDI Global Forum on Global Supply Chain and Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific.” The event will focus on tackling key issues in global supply chains and promoting sustainable development strategies in the region. The forum provides a collaborative space where both institutions can share important research, exchange ideas, and encourage discussions among policymakers, industry experts, and researchers from across Asia and the Pacific.

The forum aims to deepen the understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing global supply chains in the post-pandemic era, with a focus on strategies to boost resilience and adaptability. It will explore how international development cooperation can support sustainable and inclusive growth by promoting resilient supply chain practices across Asia and the Pacific. Additionally, the forum will foster regional networking and collaboration among policymakers, industry leaders, and researchers, encouraging knowledge exchange and partnerships to tackle common challenges and advance sustainable development.

The event will bring together senior government officials and policymakers responsible for trade, economic policy, and supply chain management from ministries and agencies across the region. It will also feature speakers and experts from international organizations, government agencies, research institutes, and academic institutions specializing in global supply chains, economic development, and sustainable growth.

The expected outcomes include a set of policy recommendations aimed at strengthening the resilience of global supply chains, enhancing food security, and supporting the green energy transition in Asia and the Pacific. Key insights and best practices shared during the forum will be compiled and disseminated to further support the regionโ€™s development goals.
