Power Exchange India Limited (PXIL) successfully hosted the 160th session of Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) trading, facilitating the 15th trading session for the financial year 2024-2025 and the 36th since the new CERC regulations of December 2022. The session saw a total of 1.55 lakh RECs transacted. This milestone follows a directive from the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) and guidance from the Delhi High Court, lifting previous restrictions on the sale of RECs issued prior to October 31, 2022, which allowed broader market participation.
The REC trading, segmented under two directives, included transactions in non-solar RECs issued before April 2017 at a floor price of Rs. 1,500 per MWh, as mandated by CERC. The second directive encompassed a diverse array of RECs from renewable sources such as solar, wind, hydro, and biomass. The event highlighted PXIL’s role in advancing the Indian renewable energy market by providing a robust platform for market participants to trade certificates, facilitating India’s renewable energy goals.
PXIL acknowledged the support from all participants in the REC trading segment and expressed its commitment to continue fostering a reliable trading environment across various market segments, including Integrated Day Ahead Market and Real Time Market Contracts. Promoted by the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX), PXIL remains dedicated to expanding the Indian power market by integrating local insights and global perspectives for enhanced decision-making in energy investments and transactions.
