The announcement builds on the momentum of the UAE’s groundbreaking ‘UAE Consensus’ from COP28, which garnered commitments from nations, organisations, and corporations to reduce carbon emissions and conserve natural resources.

UAE to Lead Global Energy Efficiency Efforts
Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), outlined the initiative during the UAE’s national pavilion events at COP29, hosted in Azerbaijan. Speaking to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Al Olama highlighted the global enthusiasm for energy efficiency and noted widespread support for the alliance from countries worldwide.

“The UAE will play a leading role in this alliance, sharing best practices in energy efficiency, facilitating knowledge transfer, and fostering public-private partnerships,” said Al Olama. He urged governments, organisations, and leaders to join the alliance to achieve ambitious sustainability targets.

Alliance Objectives and Focus Areas
The Global Energy Efficiency Alliance aims to promote knowledge sharing, build capacity, and standardise policies that encourage investments in energy efficiency projects. By leveraging innovative technologies and fostering partnerships, the alliance seeks to reduce carbon emissions and minimise natural resource consumption.

A special focus will be placed on African nations, with plans to share financing models and technological solutions critical to the continent’s sustainable development.

Al Olama emphasised the importance of unified global efforts in addressing energy challenges. “This alliance is a testament to the UAE’s commitment to sustainability and its leadership in driving transformative initiatives that benefit the planet,” he stated.

The UAE is calling on countries, organisations, and private sector players to join the alliance and work collectively to develop and implement policies, technologies, and investments that align with global sustainability goals.
