Virginia Welcomes 14.6 MW Solar Project By Adapture Renewables

Adapture Renewables, a leading developer and operator of large-scale solar and energy storage projects, has announced the successful completion and launch of its 14.6 MW Rivanna Solar project in Charlottesville, Virginia. This marks the companyโ€™s first venture in Virginia and within the territories of Dominion Energy and PJM, representing a significant step in its plan to expand clean energy solutions across the U.S.

As Virginia experiences rapid growth in power demand, fueled by the stateโ€™s booming data center industry, the need for new renewable energy sources has never been more urgent. Rivanna Solar is expected to generate over 21,000 MWh of clean energy each year, enough to power thousands of homes and businesses. This project supports Virginiaโ€™s goals for 100% clean energy, contributing to the stateโ€™s efforts to meet local and regional energy demands.

Zack Zoller, VP of Engineering, Procurement and Construction at Adapture Renewables, said in a statement, โ€œRivanna Solar will contribute to Virginiaโ€™s goal of using clean power to meet surging demand for energy from rapidly growing data center capacity. Having successfully navigated development through the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, this project reinforces our commitment to resilient, sustainable energy projects that serve local communities.โ€

The Charlottesville solar project, backed by incentives from the Inflation Reduction Act, showcases strong collaboration with local contractors, the community, and the landowner. This project is set to boost the local economy, generating over $2 million in state and local taxes over its lifetime. During development and construction, it will also support more than 150 local jobs. Once the solar farmโ€™s operational term ends, the land is expected to be returned to timber farming, benefiting from decades of natural regeneration. This sustainable approach ensures the projectโ€™s positive impact on both the environment and the local community.
