RWE, a global leader in energy, has reached a significant milestone with the installation of 10 gigawatts (GW) of generation capacity across its U.S. onshore wind, solar, and energy storage facilities. This achievement underscores RWEโ€™s continued expansion in the U.S., where it owns and operates over 170 facilities across 24 states.

The company’s portfolio in the U.S. includes 4.3 GW of solar, 5.2 GW of onshore wind, and 0.5 GW of battery storage, with an additional 4 GW of clean energy projects currently under construction. RWEโ€™s presence spans most U.S. states, and the company is rapidly scaling its operations to provide cost-competitive, reliable energy while fostering economic growth and job creation in local communities.

Andrew Flanagan, CEO of RWE Clean Energy, commented, “By working with top-tier suppliers, partnering with local communities, and empowering employees, RWE is making a significant impact across America. We are fueling economic growth, creating new jobs, and providing millions in tax revenues and financial benefits to our local partners, all while enhancing national energy security.”

In 2024, RWE commissioned new projects, including onshore wind, solar, and battery storage facilities, adding a combined 953 megawatts (MW) to its U.S. generation capacity. The company launched six projects across five states, addressing the growing energy demand driven by sectors such as artificial intelligence, data centers, and American manufacturing.

RWE also emphasizes its commitment to local communities, providing funding for local organizations, supporting landowners, and contributing property tax income to municipalities for infrastructure, emergency services, and school funding.

Among the key contributors to RWEโ€™s 10 GW milestone are two newly commissioned solar projects: Northern Orchard Solar in Kern County, California, and Timberland Solar in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. Northern Orchard Solar has a capacity of 150 MWac, along with a 92 MW (368 MWh) battery energy storage system set to be commissioned soon. Timberland Solar is a 140 MWac solar farm. Together, these projects can power 51,000 average U.S. homes annually.

RWEโ€™s ambitious growth is part of its “Growing Green” strategy, where the company continues to invest billions in the U.S. to expand its clean energy portfolio.
